Mass Dependence of the Chiral Phase Transition

We investigate chiral symmetry restoration in finite spatial volume and at finite temperature by calculating the dependence of the chiral phase transition temperature Tc on the size of the spatial volume and the current-quark mass for the quark-meson model, using the proper-time Renormalization Group approach. We find that the critical temperature is weakly dependent on the size of the spatial volume for large current-quark masses, but depends strongly on it for small current-quark masses. In addition, for small volumes we observe a dependence on the choice of quark boundary conditions.

The QCD phase transition is studied on 16 and 32 × 4 lattices both with and without quark loops. We introduce a new zero-flavor or quenched species of quark ζ and study the resulting chiral condensate, 〈ζ̄ζ〉 as a function of the ζ mass, mζ . By examining 〈ζ̄ζ〉 for 10 −10 ≤ mζ ≤ 10 we gain considerable information about the spectrum of Dirac eigenvalues. A comparison of ma = 0.01 and 0.025 shows l...

We employ non–perturbative flow equations to compute the equation of state for two flavor QCD within an effective quark meson model. This yields the temperature and quark mass dependence of quantities like the chiral condensate or the pion mass. Our treatment covers both the chiral perturbation theory domain of validity and the domain of validity of universality associated with critical phenome...

We determine the location of the second order endpoint of the line of first order chiral phase transition in 3-flavor QCD at vanishing chemical potential (µq). Using Ferrenberg-Swendsen reweighting for two values of the quark mass we determine the µq-dependence of the transition line and locate the chiral critical point. For both quantities we find a significant quark mass dependence.

Density functional approach was used to study the isotropic- nematic (I-N) transition and calculate the values of freezing parameters of the Gay- Berne liquid crystal model. New direct and pair correlation functions of a molecular fluid with Gay- Berne pair potential were used. These new functions were used in density functional theory as input to calculate the isotropic- nematic transition den...

We use a cluster algorithm to study the critical behavior of strongly coupled lattice QCD in the chiral limit. We show that the finite temperature chiral phase transition belongs to the O(2) universality class as expected. When we compute the finite size effects of the chiral susceptibility in the low temperature phase close to the transition, we find clear evidence for chiral singularities pre...
